The Importance of Recycling

By: Anvitha Yalamanchili

Recycling saves people in the world in more ways than one. Here are some simple ways that everyone can recycle on a daily basis:
  • Use reusable bags instead of plastic; using cloth grocery bags that can be washed and reused could be really helpful.
  • Reuse scrap paper for crafts.
  • Repurpose glass jars and containers; Pinterest shows you great ways to recycle plain glass jars into pretty home-products raging from food containers to decorative light-hangers.
  • Use cloth napkins and towels; using cloth napkins and towels in the kitchen and bathrooms will help to reduce paper consumption and give you a reusable product, possibly saving you a couple hundred dollars a year.
  • Recycle electronics; you can donate things like phones, iPads, and computers to charities that can fix it up or send it back to the manufacturer or store that will end up recycling the body and parts for other products.
Here are some methods of extreme recycling:
  • Recycle water and water bottles; this is very difficult because you’d have to reconfigure your water pipes so that bathwater and sink water can be used for either flushing the toilet or watering your yards.
  • Make your own compost; this means leaving your organic waste in a compost bin to decompose so that you can recycle the compost for plants.
  • Switch to using cloth diapers; disposable diapers aren’t usually put into recycling categories, so people are better off using cloth diapers if they truly want to go green.
  • Collect rainwater to use for watering plants.
  • Buy secondhand future; places to buy this furniture could be e-bay or craigslist; selling your furniture on these websites could also be useful.
